Yes, Iron Blight supports gamepads following the October 17, 2026 update. Install the update, connect your controller before launching and start with Steam's selected game layout. Test menu confirmation, movement, aiming, interaction and inventory before continuing a long save.

Set up a controller for your next session

  1. Let Steam finish the game update, then close and relaunch Iron Blight.
  2. Connect the controller and confirm Steam recognizes it before opening the game.
  3. Test the title-screen selection and confirm/back actions. If Steam itself does not detect the pad, resolve that connection first.
  4. In a cleared area, test movement, looking, aiming, firing and interaction one at a time.
  5. Open the inventory, select an item and check the weapon/ammunition actions you use. Test map and pause before leaving the safe area.
  6. If you use a custom Steam layout, keep a copy of it and compare a failing action with the game's default layout. Change one binding at a time, then retest the same screen.

This order separates a connection problem from a missing binding or a game-specific interaction. Use the action names shown by your current layout rather than assuming the keyboard's R and Space are controller buttons. The reload guide explains which weapon actions need separate inputs.

Valve's controller configuration help covers choosing action bindings. Treat a keyboard/mouse mapping as a targeted workaround for one input, and keep the working layout available while testing.

Playing on Steam Deck

Start by checking the current compatibility details on the Steam store page. The wiki recorded Playable on September 25; the October 17 gamepad announcement by itself does not change Valve's rating or certify a particular SteamOS/Proton configuration.

On Deck, include inventory-grid selection, map text, pause, reload and the next-shot action in your opening test. If one command fails, inspect its binding before replacing the whole layout. Valve's Deck compatibility explanation distinguishes Playable from Verified.

Why older guides say support is still planned

Patch 1.05, released September 21, postponed complete Xbox gamepad support. The September 30 roadmap then targeted early October. The October 17 Gamepad Support! release supersedes that planned status; use the dated update notes for current changes and the roadmap for future content.

Sources and device testing

Update wording reviewed October 19, 2026 against the developer announcement as preserved in its SteamDB transcript. No controller model or Deck configuration was tested by the wiki for this update. The setup sequence above is a diagnostic checklist, not an invented button map.
